Rubber plantation in Kerela, India

I am in Kerela with a friend riding bikes. We went to a rubber plantation we saw from the road side. Since this is the base product for our shoes I wanted to see how it is done. We saw the whole process from cutting the bark, running the sap and the pile of mushroom like caps that are collected from the coconut husks that catch the dripping sap. Then to the pressing room with English made roller presses from 1910. The sheet of natural latex rubber will then go off to be heated in wood fired kilns before selling on to a cooperative to be exported and presumably used in shoe production amongst other things. Very good to see,
